Hi, my name is Summer Spinks. I am 15 years of age and am currently attending year 10 at Elanora State High School.

Recently, I have been given the chance to complete a Certificate III in business focusing on marketing and business administration, here at the Currumbin RSL.

Though I have only just started the traineeship, I have already fallen in love with the place and the people. The teams under the management of Kharma Stewart (HR) and Gordon Watson (Marketing), have been so amazing and helpful. Nervous at first for the large leap between a school desk to an office desk, the staff was very welcoming and couldn’t have made the transition any easier.

The balance between school life and the traineeship has been an effortless adjustment thanks to the support from both ends and I am excited about this opportunity to challenge myself. It was clear from day one that I was going to look forward to coming to work each week.

Despite still being in high school, I am still treated equally and very appreciative of the tasks and responsibilities I am set to contribute to the RSL. The most recent being writing about the volunteers at the Veteran’s Support Centre. It is truly inspiring not only the work they do, but the supportive and collaborative atmosphere the Club upholds with the customers, veterans and staff.

In the short time I have been at the RSL I have already learnt so much about the work that goes on behind the scenes. Accumulating this knowledge first-hand will contribute not only to my studies at school, but also my future career as I aspire to work within this field.

In five years I hope to be not only travelling but attending university to study business and events management which I am sure the experience and lessons I receive from the Currumbin RSL will benefit me greatly in pursuing these future endeavors.

It is by far, the best little club in the world.
