Federal Government recognises vital work of Veterans Support Centre volunteers through grants program
Over 40 local volunteer groups, including our Veterans Support Centre, on the Gold Coast have received funding in the latest round of the Australian Federal Government’s Volunteers Grants Program.
The Liberal National Government is backing volunteers across the Gold Coast with a share of funding from the $20 million Volunteer Grants program.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 help local community organisations on the Southern Gold Coast with a range of needs, including buying equipment, paying fuel costs, training volunteers or improving their fundraising.
The Veterans Support Centre received a grant of $3,000.
Gold Coast MP, Karen Andrews said volunteering greatly benefits our communities – both socially and economically.
“The enormous value of volunteering is estimated at $290 billion per year. The Gold Coast’s volunteers and their organisations are the backbone of community life,” Minister Andrews
“Volunteers embody the best of our community with thousands of people regularly volunteering their skills, services and time to make life on the Gold Coast better for those around them.”
Chairman of the Veterans Support Centre Mr Tony Hornby said, “We are very grateful for the support in the latest round of the Volunteer Grants Program. This grant will help with the day-to-day costs associated with managing our volunteer workforce.”
The Veterans’ Support Centre provides professional advice and assistance to veterans, serving members, ex-members of the Defence Forces and their dependents, seeking to obtain entitlements under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 as Amended (VEA) and from the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (MRCA) and the Safety Rehabilitation Compensation Act (SRCA).
The service covers disability pensions, compensation payments, associated allowances, income support payments and medical treatment which may be available to entitled veterans, members and ex-members of the Defence Forces and their dependents.
