Energy & Water
Throughout the club we use LED light fittings and have zoned air conditioning to enable areas not in use to be isolated. Our administration and staff back-of-house areas have sensor lighting throughout ensuring lights switch off during after hours.
Dune Café and the Veteran’s Support Centre, part of Currumbin RSL’s Group, both have grid connected solar power systems installed to harness some of their energy needs from the sun.
We have 120,000l of rainwater stored on site which is dedicated for use on our gardens, for maintenance and toilet flushing. Water efficient devices are installed throughout the club to cut down on water use.

Food
Whilst our menu can tantalise your tastebuds, our chefs are also committed to the best possible outcomes for sustainability within our kitchens. Food sourced locally is supportive of local growers / suppliers and also cuts down on transport miles.
We also love the produce picked from our own herb and vegetable garden. The garden, tended with care by Bevin Ford, a local veteran and member of the club is planted seasonally with what chefs require and supplies the kitchens regularly with edible flowers, herbs and other vegetables.

Waste
We take our responsibility within the hospitality industry to ‘do the right thing’ with waste very seriously.
Firstly, reducing the amount of waste we generate is vitally important. Suppliers are worked with to encourage the use of containers that are not single use for delivery of goods. This ensures the full supply chain are involved in great outcomes. We are members of the “Last Straw” community – an organisation eradicating single use plastic straws globally. You will not get a straw in your drink unless you ask for it. If you need one, you can be happy that the straw that you are using is 100% compostable and does not make it into landfill but into the compost bins.
Food prep vegetable scraps are sorted by chefs and sent to a local pig farmer for nutrient-rich food for his animals. Venue table leftovers and anything not “pig-friendly” are sorted into our organic commercial waste bins and collected by the wonderful team at Suez who send it off to be composted by Phoenix Recycling. This ‘waste’ stream ends up as bagged fertiliser and soil builder in your local hardware stores.
Our Bottlecycler crushes around 3500 bottles per week, the glass shards of which are 100% recycled and used as road base and other recycled glass manufacturing.
Containers including milk bottles, catering cans and jars and other recyclables are sent off in our comingle bins for recycling. Cardboard and paper are recycled and even our shredded paper makes its way to local composting centres!!
