The Currumbin RSL ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Elephant Rock on Currumbin Beach has become the largest Dawn Service in Queensland with 25,000 attending the 2019 event.
Over the past 25 years the Currumbin RSL ANZAC Day Dawn Service has become an iconic Queensland event with both a national and international audience.
This year, according to media monitoring company iSentia, the Dawn Service reached a record audience of over 20 million through a range of digital, TV, radio and other media channels.
The Dawn Service was broadcast live by Channel 7 and their highly popular Sunrise program also streamed it to an international audience via the Sunrise Facebook page.
In addition, images taken by Australian Associated Press Photographer Dave Hunt also made the pages of of numerous media publications including receiving placement in the London Times (See the image below).
The Currumbin Dawn Service was organised by Currumbin RSL and the service featured moving elements and tributes to those lost and remembered from war, including the unique ‘Ashes to Sea’, Roll of Honour, the award winning Benowa State School choir, indigenous welcome and other touching elements.
The location of the Currumbin RSL Dawn Service is also symbolic of Gallipoli and showcases the beautiful Gold Coast beach landscape.
The service is renowned for being respectful, commemorative, inclusive and has now become a ‘bucket list’ event and attracts visitors from intrastate, interstate and internationally and who want to share this special day of remembrance in a special way.
