The organisers, Hannah Sheppard and Chana Warry-Stokes believe that Southern Gold Coast locals are desperate for a week-day farmers market. Currumbin Community Markets Organiser Hannah Sheppard said, “So many Gold Coast locals have to travel to our neighbouring towns in the Northern Rivers to buy fresh produce during the week. We thought it was time we had our own community farmers market so that locals could access real food grown locally at a convenient time and place.” The local women are focused on creating a true farmers market community by only allowing farmers who have a direct link to the produce they sell. “The produce must be grown, raised, or caught by the individual farmer or the farmer has a direct link to the produce and can identify exactly where it comes from,” Ms Sheppard said.
