Think Global, Love Local

October 27, 2010

High Tea, Wine and Cheese Workshop, Degustation Dinner

Think global, love local is Currumbin RSLs 2010 motto and throughout the month of November we will showcase what has gone on behind the scenes in 2010 from environmental sustainability changes to promoting local farmers and food producers to working closely with local businesses.

The club has always been a great supporter of the local community but has taken it a step further by strengthening our ties with local businesses. Club CEO, Anne Stovin, Executive Chef Jiri Solnicka, Marketing Manager, Laura Versace and Tweed Tourism Product Development manager, Joanne Gurney spent a day visiting the local Tweed and Gold Coast farmers and businesses to see all the great produce on offer.

Slow food is not a unique concept to most nor is it a new concept for the Club with Alleys Restaurant menu having contained local produce for some time. Therefore many of the producers visited on the day were already familiar to Jiri while others were a delightful surprise. November is about highlighting the fact that there is so much on offer right here on our doorstep and also to increase the Clubs local imports.

Along with supporting and recognising local food and beverage producers by including their produce on Alleys new menu, the Club will hold signature events throughout the month inviting the proprietors as special guests to speak about their product.

All the events tie into the Clubs Think Global, Love Local campaign. Have you ever wondered how far your food has travelled before it gets to your plate? is the basic premise behind this idea as it is more environmentally sustainable to use produce from the local area. Signature events will include a high tea, wine and cheese workshop and 100km degustation dinner at Alleys Restaurant plus food, wine and cocktail specials. All in aid of promoting local growers and informing people about the huge variety of quality produce available right at their doorstep.
