Chamber of Commerce Business Awards
September 6, 2010
Currumbin RSL came up trumps at this year’s Creek to Creek Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
The Club was nominated for two awards and won both
The first award was the Business Achievement award for 30+ employees and a big part of why the Club was awarded was that in 2009 cash donations totaling over $140,000 were generously shared amongst local groups and events. In 2010 the Club hopes to continue financial aid to the community.
Also stated was that Currumbin RSL is a dynamic organization priding itself on being an integral part of the local community. The club is multi faceted and encompasses CRC, College of Hospitality, Dune Café, Foodoo the Catering Company and a Veterans Support Centre. Its 160 staff work to completely satisfy visitors with their hospitality.
Currumbin RSL also won the Special Achievement award for their D’Alliance festival. In its second year the festival brought over 10,000 people to the area over the four days. The festival provides the community with a free cutting edge festival that supports local arts workers and profiles the arts under one umbrella-including comedy, film, music, street art, circus, visual arts and interactive creative workshops.
The RSL hired the professional expertise of Kylie Mitchell Smith, the founder and creator of the Swell Sculpture festival to be the creative director to ensure the event was brought to life and offered all that it could. The festival is a community event that aids the cultural, social and economic development of the region.
