The Story of Four-legged Diggers
Canine troops have served alongside Australia’s armed forces for nearly a hundred years. Valued for their loyalty, intelligence and devotion in battle, war dogs have patrolled borders, searched for wounded, detected landmines and explosives, controlled crowds, relayed messages and laid telephone wires.
In Australian War Dogs, Nigel Allsopp, author of Cry Havoc: The History of War Dogs, explores the role military dogs have played throughout our history and what contributions they could make in the future.
Nigel Allsopp began his military career as a Military Working Dog handler in the Royal New Zealand Air Force Police. He has handled explosive detection and narcotic detection dogs and trained numerous agencies in the use of specialist dogs. Nigel is currently a Senior Constable in the Queensland Police Service Dog Section operating a Firearms Explosive Detection Dog and is a member of the Australian Defence Forces Tracker & War Dog Association.
This book is due for release in February 2012.
