Alleys Evolution

June 12, 2012

...From a small seed, an idea grows and an evolution begins

In the spring of 2011, Alleys kitchen apprentice, Justin was found fossicking in the ground near our worm farms. Club CEO Anne Stovin queried him and Justins simple reply was that he wanted to start a herb garden. While this area was too sandy for any herbs to grow, an idea had been planted in Annes mind & the origins of Alleys evolution began

Since this auspicious occasion, the Club took a tour of the Currumbin Community Special School and saw all the great work they were doing. Read more

From there, Anne, key staff and volunteers have come together to begin what is now a fertile & productive vegetable garden. Staff members family kindly volunteered to set up the garden beds & its surrounding fence. Sous Chefs Adam & Scott, joined by Mark & Carlos ran with the idea and between them have cultivated the garden, feed the worm farms and maintained the compost piles. From here, community garden days ensued with Alleys Alana at the helm creating free family friendly workshops.

Where to from here?

Being able to source products so local and so fresh has made Executive Chef Jiri giddy with excitement. So much so that we are planning an extension and Jiri is bursting at the seams (were actually worried he might explode with exhilaration).

More workshops have also been planned including decorating our worm farms & the creation of a pizza oven!

All great things are only a number of small things that have carefully been collected together.
