Gordon is hoping to raise $2,000 for the Veterans’ Support Centre through a GoFundMe page he has set up.
The run takes place right in the heat of summer this Sunday 10 December on the Gold Coast and is arguably the most beautiful long distance run in the world but also a challenging one.
The course is 50km and starts in Broadbeach at 5:00am, heads south down to Point Danger and then back to Broadbeach.
“I have the pleasure of having a close working relationship with the Veterans Support Centre. The volunteers they have, the work they do and the services they offer are nothing short of inspirational and life changing. I am hoping to raise $2,000 and I am about a quarter of the way there thanks to some very generous friends, family and colleagues.”
Did you know the number of Veterans taking their own lives more than triples Australia’s combat toll in Afghanistan?
The Veterans Support Centre provides professional advice and assistance to veterans of all ages, including, serving members, ex-members of the Defence Forces and their dependents, and includes programs for assist younger veterans re-engage with the wider community after serving for Australia.
Gordon said, “This run really takes me out of my comfort zone, but I do love a challenge. It may not be fast, it may not be pretty, but with the training I have done I am pretty confident I can complete the course.”
Gordon only took up running in the last five years and thought the GC50 Ultramarathon would be a good opportunity to challenge himself and raise money for an organisation that he cares deeply about.
