Gold Coast UpMarket To Raise Funds For Younger Veterans

A group of wonderful Currumbin RSL members committed to making a difference in their community by organising a local UpMarket' with all proceeds going to assist younger veterans.

As part of the “Fun and Ageless” seniors group within the club, these community-minded locals will be raising much needed funds to nurture veterans returning from recent and current war zones and their families.

For months now the group have been collecting items from local antique and op shops and restoring their former beauty. The makeovers include the themes of ‘Coastal’, ‘Shabby Chic’ and ‘Contemporary’ but can easily be summed up as beautiful.

Items include furniture, frames, bottles and jars, decorator items and the like. The ladies and gentlemen have worked tirelessly to bring these exquisite items back to life.

Ambassador for the group, Jan Dwyer, says “We have been blessed with donations and finds in local shops of the most beautiful pieces. Often neglected, once we’ve worked our magic with them – they are all absolutely beautiful.”

The group will host a stall called “The UpMarket” at Currumbin RSL on Sunday 22nd October, 2017 from 10am. The market will sell the goods that have been lovingly restored and 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Contemporary Veterans Program at the Veterans Support Centre. The money will be spent locally to assist veteran assimilation into the community.

Ms Dwyer says “This is a great opportunity to grab some handcrafted Christmas presents and support a charity that is so vital right at this time. We hope to make a big difference to this very vulnerable group and their families so we hope people can come and support and take away some beautiful items for their homes and their loved ones.”

The UpMarket will be set up on the Currumbin Creekside of the Currumbin RSL with the lovely folks there to sell their wares from 10:ooam onwards. For queries please contact Kerry Shepherd on 0438 268 248.

Ends.
