As I sought the words to craft this address, I examined the definition of Remembrance Day, as contained in the Australian Oxford dictionary. This is how the dictionary defined the day: “Remembrance Day, formerly Armistice Day 11 November 1918 when those killed in wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 and later conflicts are remembered.”
If this is all that future generations know about the customs and traditions of Remembrance Day, then I suggest that the “Legends of Australians at War” will simply be shrouded in distorted mythology rather than being an inspiration and a basis of a National Vision for the future.
