Community

Currumbin RSL takes its role as a key community organisation very seriously and always aims to be an active, integral part of the local community by providing monetary support, venue availability and guidance and assistance where required.

Currumbin RSLs policy on supporting community groups includes the following specifics:

  • Groups must be located in the local area from Tallebugera to Tugun
  • The group must benefit the local residents
  • Documentation/verification of fund expenditure must be provided
  • Applications are to be made to the Board of Directors or the CEO in writing outlining the benefits and sponsorship amounts

Our aim is always, if we can help, we will help and we try and ensure that we support as many local groups as possible by providing for youth, sport, elderly, general community and art/cultural events.

Events were a highlight of 2009 commencing with our Anzac Day Dawn Service which is now listed in the top ten iconic Queensland events list. There were over 5,000 people in attendance at our National Day of Remembrance dawn service. This year Anzac day falls on Sunday April 25

Our inaugural DAlliance Carnivale was our next community event held on May 9. DAlliance is a festival in celebration of the arts including street performers, aerial acrobatics, comedy, music, dance, visual arts, short film and many workshops all held on the banks of Currumbin Creek. The turn out during the day was in excess of 5,000 people and the feedback fantastic. 2010 will see the event as more of a fringe festival to be held during May 27 to 30.

December held our Christmas by the Sea event which was showcased at the Palm Beach parklands. This event included a centre stage with a variety of performers and large inflatable screen showing Christmas carol lyrics and images. There was also a farm animal enclosure and a lantern parade by local school children (free workshops were held at 3 surrounding schools prior to the event). Crowds were estimated at 2,000 – a great success for our initial Christmas by the Sea. 2010 Christmas by the Sea will be held on Monday December 13.
